LAYING OUT ARCHITECTURE
Bellissimo collaborates with the foundation established by the renowned Italian architect. The studio is in charge of the editorial design of its major publications.
A massive meeting table dominates the room, surrounded by photographs, freehand sketches, and technical diagrams pinned to wooden panels. Beyond that is the space with balsa models and the extensive document archive. The books produced by Bellissimo, each dedicated to a Renzo Piano project, aim to capture on paper the environment that welcomes visitors to the Fondazione at Punta Nave, Genoa. The foundation itself was conceived as a kind of workshop-laboratory, documenting the studio’s work while celebrating the craft of architecture.
Renzo Piano asks the books to convey the “struggle of the project” that accompanies the technical development of a construction site.
Istanbul Modern Museum, CERN’s Science Gateway in Geneva, the Academy Museum in Los Angeles. Faced with the diverse materials that trace the history of these projects and construction sites, the primary task of the designer is to bring order and depth to the story.
