Innosfera

MULTIFACETED INNOVATION

Bellissimo works with UniTo to create an ambitious digital editorial project. Innosfera, a platform that highlights research opportunities and brings academic activity closer to the business world.

A university is many things: a center that creates knowledge, a place that trains future workers, a hub that attracts resources and people. Increasingly, universities are also being called upon to act as engines of transformation for their communities. Academic activity is expected not only to advance knowledge, but also to “transfer” expertise and technologies, collaborate with companies and institutions, and generate economic and social impact. In other words, to transform knowledge into innovation — and this is how the University of Turin’s idea for Innosfera originates.

Strengthening the connection with the University’s ecosystem, the logo design and visual identity were developed in coherence with UniTo’s communication system — while maintaining a strong distinctive character.

Through its website, social media channels, and newsletter, Innosfera communicates UniTo’s commitment to innovation. Managed by the Directorate for Research, Innovation and Internationalization, the platform brings together several functions: highlighting calls, training opportunities, and initiatives for researchers; fostering connections with companies and organizations across the innovation ecosystem; and showcasing UniTo’s activities in support of innovation. A large editorial project — complex, evolving, and developed by Bellissimo through an ongoing dialogue with the university team.

Innosfera has become a platform for building connections. And connections are the key element of innovation.

As in this case as well, the project begins with interviews with the people responsible for the initiative, to gain a deeper understanding of its goals and content. The dynamism and multidisciplinary nature of innovation at UniTo —a university made up of 27 departments— take shape in a colorful, approachable visual identity. A multifaceted universe, quite literally, designed to combine and recombine, to come to life across the website and social media content, always balancing simplicity with visual impact.

The University of Turin’s signature red is complemented by a broad palette of bright tones, designed to stand out in digital applications.

The system of geometric shapes becomes essential in highlighting key news on the website and in structuring more complex texts, often rich in content and multiple possible entry points.

The second key effort is editorial. Innosfera draws on science communication and technology transfer practices from leading international universities, bringing multiple functions into a single environment. The “Innovation Agenda” section offers a weekly roundup of opportunities for research, grouped into Funding, Training, and Initiatives. “Innovation at UniTo” presents the projects developed by the University. The “Collaborate” page is addressed to companies and investors, outlining how to develop joint projects and the benefits they bring. Bellissimo also contributed to the editing of the content.

The 3D shapes open up further combinations and applications, designed for digital environments and adaptable across different communication channels and tools.

The Innosfera ecosystem naturally extends to social media (here are the profiles on LinkedIn and Instagram). During the launch phase of the initiative, the studio joined the project’s editorial team in producing interviews and other video content. The “Voci dall’Innosfera” (Voices from Innosfera) series has already involved students, guests from local companies, and faculty members, starting with Rector of the University of Turin Cristina Prandi, to gather experiences and new perspectives on innovation and its themes — with each interviewee also asked a common question: their personal advice for anyone looking to innovate today.

Among the project’s key qualities, there is also one that is not immediately visible. In terms of visual language and tools, Innosfera is conceived as an open system —an example of versatility— ready to evolve in the direction that best supports the future development the University of Turin will choose to envision.
