Gap Free Day
SPEAKING OF INCLUSION
Lavazza Group engages its people in a day of dialogue and participation. Bellissimo oversees the event, managing activities, content, and a series of installations designed to bring the themes of Diversity & Inclusion to life firsthand.
Throughout 2023, Lavazza Group strengthened its commitment to fostering an inclusive workplace culture by organizing a full day of meetings and activities for a thousand guests. The event, called Gap Free Day, references the principles of the Group’s D&I Manifesto, which promotes a professional environment free from bias or inequality. The Turin headquarters hosted the first of a series of similar initiatives for Lavazza.
Bellissimo was in charge of interpreting the philosophy of the Gap Free platform and designing the day’s content, with special attention to parenthood, gender gaps, and generational differences in the workplace. The studio translated these social themes into immersive, first-hand experiences through words, graphics, and installations. The guiding thread was empathy — a key to truly understanding the needs of others.
The installations created by Bellissimo encourage visitors to see things from a different perspective. At the entrance to the Nuvola Lavazza, a racetrack invites participation in the “Inequality Race.” Starting positions are determined by personal profiles —gender, background, responsibilities— and each favorable condition allows a move forward, revealing the initial gaps that influence people’s paths differently.
At the “In Their Shoes” stations, empathy comes through audio storytelling, featuring scenes performed by actors. With headphones on, participants can step into the shoes of colleagues and experience situations of discomfort caused by bias or discrimination — for example, a young employee or a mother being taken less seriously. Stereotypes and false assumptions are also highlighted on the grand staircase, a symbolic invitation to rise above and overcome common prejudices.
Bellissimo also coordinated the day’s program of talks and workshops. At its debut, Gap Free Day brought to the stage, alongside Francesca Lavazza (Board, Lavazza Group) and Antonio Baravalle (CEO), writer Michela Murgia and philosopher Lorenzo Gasparrini. The morning closed with a panel of CEOs from companies recognized for their inclusion initiatives. In the afternoon, a series of workshops on Gender, Parenthood & Care, and Generations engaged participants in a shared dialogue — an opportunity to develop and discuss new perspectives for a more equitable workplace.
At the entrance, every participant received a keepsake kit with stickers and a temporary tattoo, allowing them to express their support for the project on their own skin.
