AlpTextyles at Milano Unica: weaving Alpine traditions and textile innovation

From July 8–10, Bellissimo and AlpTextyles —the Interreg Alpine Space project where we serve as the communication partner— participated in the 41st edition of Milano Unica, one of the leading international trade shows for the textile industry. We contributed to every phase of the event design, from concept development and visual identity to spatial design and both physical and digital communication materials.
By inviting AlpTextyles to showcase with a dedicated stand in the Trends & Innovation area —one of the fair’s most anticipated and curated sections— Milano Unica offered a rare platform for a European project. This recognition brought significant visibility to the three years of collaborative work involving the 12 international partners. Titled “Alpine Threads: Between Tradition and Innovation,” the 120-square-meter stand was conceived as an immersive exploration of the past and future of Alpine textiles — an environment designed to foster dialogue between physical and digital elements, scientific research and project design experimentation.
The space unfolds through sections conceived not as separate displays, but as chapters in a cohesive narrative balancing rigor, creativity, and memory: from the Wool Library —a tactile installation featuring wool sourced from native Alpine sheep breeds— to furniture elements and clothes collections developed by emerging designers using fabrics and natural dyes created within the project.
For these garments, we introduced the narrative labels communication format, designed to expand product storytelling and highlight information that traditional labeling and certifications cannot fully convey — including details about production processes and craftsmanship as well as environmental and cultural impact.
The communication journey continues with artworks developed during the Textile Summer Schools and a Living Exhibition composed of eco-sustainable educational storytelling panels retracing the project’s preliminary research. Conceived as strategic editorial dissemination tools, these materials give visual form to research: data, analysis, and findings move past the format of technical reports and become part of the exhibition narrative, through a synthesis of graphic and verbal language that transforms specialized knowledge into shared understanding.
The experience also featured a digital corner dedicated to the AlpTextyles Metaverse —an augmented reality environment showcasing garments from digitized archives and the Young Designers Collections— along with a dedicated area where visitors could explore the project’s online course on circular practices (MOOC – Massive Open Online Course).
